A lot of times for up and coming people in the fashion industry, work is more of a collaborative effort and often involves little or no pay. It's termed TF (time for) and basically means that each party puts forth their time and effort as compensation. Sometimes, it's basically a way for designers and photographers to take advantage of this and get models to work for them for free. I've even had designers promise pictures from shows for portfolio purposes as compensation for working with them, and never follow up on that promise.

So when I worked with Studio Sixth Sense, it was really refreshing. Aside from the fact that the whole Studio Sixth Sense team was so amazingly sweet, they not only had a food tray before the runway show TO FEED THE MODELS, but they also made EACH model a small gift bag (with their names handwritten on cards) and filled with lots of goodies.

I don't have to tell you how luxurious and sophisticated the clothes are. Or how everyone at Houston Fashion week was raving about the collection. They have what it takes to get somewhere in the fashion industry. More importantly than anything else, they have an appreciation for the people that can help them get there. And that my friends, will make all the difference in the world.

I've always despised the way people are so quick to label themselves as 'models' and I've always been really hesitant to call myself one. So I always found it comical when people would mistake me for one or tell me that I could be one. Sure I have the height, but I'm far from the qualifications of what I believe to be a bonafide model, you know, the seemingly unreachable perfection you see in the fashion magazines.

The modeling industry has got to be one of the hardest industries to be in. The sole basis of the job is to be judged on your looks and that can be tough on even the most self-assured soul, let alone my own. But while it's easy to start thinking about the cants, the hows, and the many ways I am not fit to be a model, the only thing that I realized was that I should just do things that I enjoy.

I have to say that even though I will probably never be good enough to go pro, what I DO have is good enough to help other people. I've been able to participate in 2 charity (unpaid) runway shows. Being able to help other people is probably just as satisfying as a contract with one of the top modeling agencies in New York.

Bottom line: The only person who should judge whether you can or can't do something is yourself and sometimes the only thing that is stopping you from doing things is yourself.

Because of the Make A Wish foundation, Nicole Larson was able to visit the Fashion Institute of Design in New York. Now at 15 years old, this fashion show debuted her first collection and proceeds benefited the Make-A-Wish foundation Texas GulfCoast and Louisiana chapter.

The collection focused on the versatility of being able to mix and match different pieces together. Featuring flattering sweetheart necklines, vibrant magentas and teals, and sophisticated shrugs. The Be Nicole Larson show was a blast and such a fulfilling show to be a part of. She was so sweet and the clothes were super casual chic and colorful! I was totally in love with the color palette. Hope you guys enjoyed a peak!

Don't get me wrong. Pamela Love is an obvious accessory genius but at upwards of $600 and more for one of her creations, it really has me wondering if owning one of her pieces makes you look cool or just makes you downright stupid when there are plenty of other great jewelry designers out there who don't wring their customers dry. I've always been a fan of Blue's jewelry and knew that when I saw this necklace, it would be mine.

Forget the roses. Forget the fancy dinner. I celebrated a belated Valentine's day with someone special pigging out on a box of Whitman's chocolates and watching American Psycho by candlelight. That might qualify as the best Valentine's EVER.

Celest's obsession with androgynous fashion began at the hearty age of 12, at which point she began raiding her father's closet and "borrowing" his sweaters and button ups. The clean lines of menswear were an instant attraction to Celest. But her mother's closet became just as appealing to Celest as she grew older, a closet filled with seventies clothing. Almost as symbolic as her parent's union, Celest combined the two styles to create a look that fuses menswear with colorful seventies clothing. Her weaknesses include blazers, colorblocks, rainbow patterns, stripes, ponchos, cardigans, vests, wooden heeled shoes, oxfords, spectator shoes, equestrian boots, button ups, and skinny ties.

Noreen's self proclaimed "rocker" style stems from her own love of music. Her inner sensual being and obsession for the pin-up girl era brings out her tendency towards vintage inspired lingerie and the concept of "innerwear as outerwear". She is often seen combining masculine and feminine pieces, but always with a little bit of attitude. Her weaknesses include oversized sweaters, studs, leather and suede, fur, 5 inch heels, skinny jeans, fringe, anything high-waisted, combat boots, bustiers, denim shirts, denim on denim, and the colors gray and neon yellow.

Saw my first live Muse performance. Matt Bellamy was decked out in a SILVER SEQUIN SUIT and played a neon lighted keytar. If that doesn't scream rockstar, I don't know what else will.

Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri nail line. All time favorite's gotta be Beige Blast and currently rocking Snappy Sorbet. Put these tips on a sugar cone and you got yourself a treat.

Asos.com heart print tights. The first day I wore these out I cannot count how many compliments I received. Extra bonus points for the fact they effortlessly bump any outfit up a cute sweet notch.

American Apparel jersey harem pant...unfairly referred to as the 'diaper pant' by a certain somebody i kno, i'm loving these for the simple fact they give you the 'i'm cool but could care less about fashion' vibe. when really, we both know the not caring part couldn't be further from the truth.

Ever since I purchased the Alice +Olivia for Payless wedge bootie, I've developed a new appreciation and and undying love for the heel that unintentionally becomes much more of a statement maker due to its art deco appeal. Let me just say the Chrissie Morris stingray inset wedge...extravagance at its best.

Hands down, Givenchy S10 has been my favorite collection thus far.

Every. Single. Piece. I need in my closet.

The only thing better than the clothes is what I have deemed their 'ace bandage' wedge. You know...the one you wrapped around your sprained foot. Except Ace never looked so good.

What I love most about Rodarte is that when other designers are erring on the side of practicality due to the economic downturn, they obviously are anything BUT practical.

I think their Spring collection is so imaginatively brilliant (as are their other collection concepts) but I could definitely see a fashion-don't if put in the wrong hands. Which is why I preferred their more 'structured' pieces (especially the one with leather cage accents) as opposed to the other pieces in the collection that were too 'cat tore up your dress' looking.

And let's face it, anything with tribal tattoos is just cool in my book.

In my personal style, I don't do cute and I definitely don't do pink. So it definitely takes something special to make me give it a second thought. So playful and so vibrant. The rest of the collection is a little bit mod and the polka dots almost make it feel a little bit pin-up-y. I'm in LOVE with the short, playful silhouettes.

When I think of Donna Karen, I can't help but think of middle aged women in professional (but stylish) business suits. But her Spring collection has me catching my breathe. Obviously my favorite have GOT to be the wispy floor-length gowns that totally float on clouds. Damn, that woman can DRAPE! I'm also loving the idea of a nude chiffon accent.

i consider myself a pretty quiet person. which probably explains some of my more outlandish outfits as merely a form of my own outspokenness. but more and more i'm coming to realize the underrated appeal of a really badass 'statement' leather jacket. as you can see, my obsession with fringe doesn't just stop with hair...and i happened to score a leather fringe jacket for $35 yesterday, marked down $40 from its original price.

i swear i'm just one lucky SOB when it comes to thrifting.

watched the september issue last night. i won't ruin it for those who have yet to see it but in retrospect i came to several realizations after watching the documentary. the main one being that fashion is probably one of the biggest oxymorons there is. it is everything and yet it is nothing.

the reactions i get from these neon yellow pants are about half and half, ranging from genuine compliments to rude laughter (as if i couldn't hear them right behind me). unfortunately the true highlighter potential didn't come out in the photos, but i assure you they are much more electric and obnoxious in person.

all i gotta say is anything remotely resembling the YSL caged bootie should automatically qualify as a statement shoe. i purchased these beauties at the same place i got the studded Gucci- look-a-likes. DSW, people. and i found them both marked down 40-50%. oh-so recession friendly.

p.s. thanks for the wonderful comments on the shots from my last blog entry. i'm sure w.ill will more than appreciate it and just might make the running around in 90 degree heat worthwhile afterall.

Funny story. One day I was studying. Happened to spot this guy with a really nice camera, struck a conversation with him, and next thing you know we're running around town living the dream. I did a mini-interview with W.ill, the man behind the lens.

p.s. yes, those are balls in my drink. Bet yall don't know NOTHIN bout that.

1) how did you get into photography?

I didn't photography got into me, it just kinda clicked, I have a lot of people that support my work and make me want to do better work. I've been taking photos for as long as i can remember and I didn't realize I had so much love for it until recently.

2) where do you find your inspiration?

From beauty, Its really hard to be inspired with the monotony of everyday life, when I can finally snap shots all day and not have monetary constraints, then inspiration wont be far away ( if that makes any sense ) but I have found a muse if she'll have me, and she is just the catalyst I need to keep going, I draw my energy from others

3) What do you think makes you different from other photographers?

Nothing, unless your talking about bad, rich or unprofessional photographers, Im the opposite of those guys

4) If you could tell people one thing about you as an artist, what would it be?

Im not sure if i consider myself an artist, I just document what I see as art, whether it be a gorgeous stylish woman, or a beautifully engineered building, I just want anyone that views my images to feel what I felt when I compressed the shutter

5) Are there any artists that influence your style?

Not really, I love many different types of artists but my influence varies by what Im shooting, I never take a shot thinking "what would Demarchelier or Ansil Adams do?"

6) What's playing on your ipod right now?

I was actually just listening to one of my best friends stuff, he just sent me a new song, his name is The Shaman and I guess the name of the song is "Hun"... look him up why don't cha!!

7) If you saw a stylish woman walking down the street, what would she be wearing that would make you want to stop her and ask to take her picture?

Wow there is so many possibilities it would have to be kinda weird and original and of course daring, I love when women are confident and aren't afraid of their bodies

Thanks to the people over at Red Light PR for these awesome Jee Vice shades. These Red Hots have been worn by the likes of Kim Kardashian, LiLo, and Anne Hathaway and it's easy to see why. It's seriously like a potent shot of ultimate glamour bad ass to any outfit.

American Eagle used to be my go-to place for casual basics and yes, those cute grandma underwear. I had an old gift card that needed using so I picked up this perfect tissue tee. Otherwise, I really can't stand that store anymore.

These Steve Maddens are like an overtly tacky version of the infamous Guccis. But I seem to be fashionably attracted to anything overtly tacky these days.

Lingerie part 2

Onesie intimates are so incredibly versatile and obviously bring a little bit of the sex factor into any outfit. If I were living anywhere else where fashion mattered, I'd definitely experiment with wearing the onesie alone with some hose, a long chunky sweater, and some beatup boots.

I was so inspired to find some leather shorts similar to Chloe Sevigny's x Opening Ceremony. I took a trip to my local Salvation Army and stumbled across these comparable suede ones. Ebay has a large selection of leather shorts but I'm hesitant to buy any because there's a thin line between a cute vintage fit and looking just plain dated (in a bad way).

I sort of said 'Aw' when I saw this photo of David Beckham helping his wife block a potential crotch shot from the paparazzi. 10 times better than opening the door for your woman, if you ask me. Chivalry is definitely not dead.

I was in search of a (1) bustier a couple of weeks ago. It happened to be a 50% off Wednesday at both Salvation Army AND Value Village. I scrounged up 3 bustiers and 2 onesies, one of the the onesies being Christian Dior. One of the bustiers I used for my most recent DIY and yes it's finished! It will make an appearance soon.

FYI, it's peach not pink. I swear.

The great thing about high-waisted is you can wear the most miniscule top and still pull it off. The reviews for these jeans were conveniently not available when I purchased them and are pretty accurate. Even with their fits-more-likea-legging-than jeans, I've been wearing them nonstop.

Stopped by Saks to check out their sale and made the mistake of trying on the Gucci Lucy platforms. They really are freaking spectacular in person and even better worn. It's like 5 pounds, 6 inches of luxurious, ridiculous goodness on each foot. I swear my heart soared.

I tried on these Stuart Weitzmans too, which were pretty awesome but after the Guccis, my inspiration to buy anything other kind of shutoff.

I am absolutely LOVING this spread for the July 2009 issue of W magazine featuring none other than newlyweds Bruce and Emma Willis. A little bit dark + a little bit S&M + a little bit WTF make for one really enticing shoot. And at 54, I really have to say that Bruce definitely qualifies as a 'looker' right alongside that Alexander McQueen leather and sterling silver harness and THOSE Nina Ricci boots.

Can we say redundant? Yes, I bought this tank in 3 different colors (black, white, grey). I love it THAT much.
I've been wanting to try this knee-high over tights look for a while now but in 70% humidity, layering is the last thing on my mind.
Spent a non-refundable $80 on a Louis Vuitton that I found at Value Village only to realize after doing some research that its most likely a fake. That's what I get for trying to be clever. I might still end up putting it in some outfit posts once I get over the loss of my pride.
Hope you like my semi-obscene striped blazer.
To transform this into night, I'd slap on some red lipstick and some heels and really cross the line between fashionable and high class hooker.

I got a haircut a few days ago. A very nice haircut actually. But you would never notice because for some reason I insist on putting my hair up. All the more reason a boy haircut is definitely in my near future.
This shirt conveniently doubles as the acid wash jacket I always wanted and never had.
This spike ring was way too big for my fingers so I just wear it on top of one of my other rings, and all is right in the world. I'm just waiting for someone to mess with me so I can stick it right in their jugular.

If you remember a while back I was invited to join Dagens Outfit. I don't know much about this website except that somehow it's associated with Stockholm Streetstyle. Extravagant shoes are like the friend that's always good for a wild time, but when it counts they're never there for you. Classics will always bail you out when you have nothing to wear.
These are on the borderline of grandma shoes, but I think the texture and the high-enough heel save them.
I wouldn't necessarily wear them with this outfit...I was just giving them a test run.
Yeah, my toes in these shoes? Like sardines in a can. If somebody has a good recommendation for these so-called 'shoe stretchers', send me a comment.

I'm with the band. No not the tight leather pants and groupie band. The summer camp and braces band. I know, I know. Been there, seen that. But tell me who could accomplish this for $4 at Salvation Army on a 50% off Wednesday. Yeah...I didn't think so. I scored a couple of other things including a sweet Levis acid wash shirt, but this one definitely takes the cake.
I really want to embellish it with some mirror like beads to make the jacket just completely obscene to look at. Not sure where I would find said beads, but a trip to the local bead store is in order.
My blog is conveniently turning into a documentation of my secondhand finds. I swear I'll be posting more 3 dimensional outfits soon when I'm not so busy, stressed, and utterly fashionably useless.

I swear I only picked this jacket up because I'm totally into a sequin phase at this moment. I had no idea of the Balmain-esque potential until I got home and tried it on again. You can be sure I'll be stuffing these shoulders as soon as I get the chance! $9.99 sure goes a long way.
I wore this to watch Crank: High Voltage at the theaters. The only thing I felt after watching was: a) throwing up and b) snatching Johnny Vang's outfit. He had the sickest harem pants and olive tank combo. I could not for the life of me find a picture of him online which is quite sad considering he's got a major supporting role. Highly eccentric directing nonetheless.
Every blogger these days seems to have a highly skilled photography boyfriend or friend. I am not equipped with either so you'll just have to take what I give you and like it. Besides, I think my shark towel really gives the photo a little something extra, don't you?
You know you've got blogging syndrome when you dream of conversating with Erin Wasson. Seriously?
I haven't been able to get to that tutorial. I promise I'll get to it as soon as I can!

A DIY smidge

Just a little DIY I cranked out. Nothing overly complicated. However I was pretty satisfied with the asymmetry of the collar. How very avant-garde of me. I started studding from the left then started studding from the right. I finally got tired of studding and just decided to leave part of it blank. This blazer spoke to me because unlike most blazers that fall straight down, the openings actually angle inward. I'll have to take better pictures of it later for you guys.

Leather Bustier via Ebay

Coincidentally came across this during my aimless searches and obviously came out on 'top'. Pun intended. I think it will go quite nicely with this in my pseudo collection I'm unintentionally starting.
as far as the DIY corset is concerned, I think I've put that on the backburner because I just can't seem to bring myself to alter it's magnificence. It's much like trying to add something to a Picasso or a Monet. It just feels really wrong. So until some factor of Newton's 1st law of motion changes things, I'll have to come up with some other extraordinary DIY for you guys.
I've had my 1st request from a reader for a tutorial! How exciting and I will attempt a reenactment of one of my previous DIY this weekend. So stay tuned!
